Summer Festival of the Arts 2014
While our early deadline application deadline has passed, applications will be accepted until mid-June and juried on a rolling basis.
Artists are encouraged to apply for the Artists’ Marketplace until then.
“Creativity takes courage.”
“life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one”
The Summer Festival of the Arts is a collaboration between Youngstown State University and the local and regional arts community. Designed to promote the diversity of art in the Mahoning Valley, the event equally welcomes regional and national fine and performing arts. Participation by area ethnic and cultural institutions makes available opportunities for positive interaction between patrons and the community.
The juried Artists' Marketplace is the heart of the Summer Festival of the Arts. Drawing local, regional and national artists the the Valley, you are sure to find original, hand-crafted pieces that allow you to express your personal style, through jewelry, paintings, sketches, sculptures, toys, music, or clothing. "Because the show is juried, festival-goers have the benefit our jury panel's expertise before the art even comes to the potential buyer," notes Lori A. Factor, festival coordnator. Taking just one stroll through the Marketplace delights your senses as you see many artists actually demonstrating their craft. And don't forget to bring a list of upcoming birthdays and holidays - your one-of-a-kind gift will certainly be a favorite.
Wick Avenue will be open during the entire Summer Festival of the Arts, although traffic will be slowed at the discretion of YSU Police. Parking is free in the Wick Avenue deck or any surface lot open around the Festival.
The Main Information Booth is located in the middle of the Festival near Kilcawley Center. Schedules of events and other pertinent information is located there.

The Youngstown Cash Mob will visit the Summer Festival of the Arts on both Saturday and Sunday. The Cash Mob is a group dedicated to promoting local businesses. Coordinator Karen Schubert notes that each booth at the festival represents an individual or family in the business community. “The Summer Festival of the Arts is a super fun event, with music, ethnic food, activities for kids, and so much beautiful art. It’s an enjoyable day, and we forget that these artists are working to make a living, same as any other small business owner.”
The Cash Mob table, next to co-coordinator Lynn Cardwell's pottery booth, (Booth 28) will feature a free drawing for a $10.00 gift card at Oh, Wow! Children’s Center for Science and Technology, which was a runner up for the July Cash Mob destination. To join the Youngstown Cash Mob, find them on Facebook or email YTownCashMob@gmail.com
