Reading & Study Skills Home

The Reading and Study Skills (R&SS) Center  is an academic as well as a service-oriented division of the Counseling Department in the College of Education at Youngstown State University. The staff, instructors, and Peer Tutors in the Reading and Study Skills Center

  • provide a variety of strategies for improving reading and studying.
  • encourage students to choose study techniques appropriate to their needs.
  • help students understand that building reading and study skills provides high returns for their investment in study time.
  • help students improve performance in academic classes.

YSU students may take advantage of our services through:

  • academic classes--1510A, 1510B, 1510C,1570
  • self-referral tutoring--individual tutoring with a trained Peer Tutor
  • workshops presented throughout the semester on a variety of topics
  • informative printed handouts available free of charge at the R&SS Center
