Message from President Sweet
Youngstown State University is in the midst of transforming itself in a myriad of ways.
Our enrollment is increasing, we are expanding our academic offerings, and residence life is gaining real momentum with the addition of new campus housing and the Andrews Recreation and Wellness Center.
Now that our recruiting efforts extend well beyond the traditional five- county service area, our YSU logo may not be readily recognized, as it is by local graduates and sports fans. It was imperative to create a new mark for the institution that spelled out the Youngstown State University name clearly and in a point size that could be read, even on a highway billboard or a television screen.
YSU’s own team of graphic designers took on the creative challenge of coming up with a new design for the University’s mark. Their collaboration resulted in a presentation of several designs, which were voted on by several administrative groups. The resulting graphic, and its many applications are at the core of this new set of Graphic Identity Standards.
This document is now available on the YSU website for the entire University community to read. Templates for certain documents are available for downloading, along with a set of guidelines for acceptable use of the new wordmark in publications, forms, and web and electronic formats.
As the institution moves into its centennial year, it is particularly important that it present a visual image to the public that reflects the University’s commitment to excellence.
I encourage everyone in the University to acquaint themselves with these Standards and to adhere to them in your projects and publications.
