FERPA

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act or FERPA is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. This law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. FERPA gives parents and students certain rights with respect to education records.

  • Directory Information:  Directory information may be released to anyone making an inquiry in conformance with the Family Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (Buckley Amendment) and Article IX, Section D.2 of the Student Records Policy in Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities and Conduct.  Directory information includes a student’s name, address, classification (freshman), enrollment status (full-time), participation in official YSU activities, dates of attendance, and degrees and certificates.
