Developing Leaders Today to Leave a Legacy Tomorrow!
Learn... Lead... Leave A Legacy!
Are you interested in enhancing your leadership knowledge and skills? Would you like to experience inspirational leadership opportunities? Do you have a desire to make a difference in your community? Well, leadership is needed more today than ever! The Emerging Leader Program (ELP) is a structured, self-paced program designed to strengthen your leadership knowledge and skills. ELP is a dynamic leadership development program that emphasizes leadership being a life-long journey involving self-discovery, collaborative relationships, and empowering community. After completing the program, you will receive a notation on your academic transcript; an official leadership transcript; an ELP medal and certificate at the annual awards banquet; and the ELP service pin. Perhaps more importantly, you will have further developed the qualities and skills that are needed to be successful, to create a better community, to empower others, and to leave a positive legacy.
The model that we use for the program is based on a philosophy that divides leadership into four distinct, interconnected spheres. These spheres are Self Discovery, Collaborative Relationships, Empowering Community, and Leadership. These are illustrated below through the eyes of Youngstown State University Emerging Leaders.

ELP Learning Outcome: Leadership Knowledge
"Most importantly, no matter how strong a leader may be, they are always open to learning new and improved methods and ideas of leadership. Leadership is an ever evolving process, not a stagnant position."

ELP Learning Outcome: Self-Discovery
After attending core courses, electives, and fall and spring renewals, I have found out that I am a leader. I am a leader of my own life, to my brother and two sisters, and my friends. I love the Emerging Leader Program because the different courses helped me to open up more and realize that leaders are within, and not the position you have.

ELP Learning Outcome: Empowering Community
A successful leader knows that they must do what is best for a group as a whole. This can be done using all five senes. Hearing others, speaking to others, tasting other ideas touching the hearts of others, and seeing a vision ahead is what makes a leader be successful in all that they do.

ELP Learning Outcome: Collaborative Relationships
Discovering the things you are truly passionate about requires you to be completely honest with yourself and those around you. I've come to understand the leadership journey is a constant learning process, and that one should always look for opportunities to improve their leadership skills.
