- International Business Academic Programs
Recognizing the interdisciplinary nature of international business, students interested in a career in international business have the opportunity to pursue a program designed to fit their own particular area of interest through the Individualized Curriculum Program in International Business. The program consists of all the general education requirements and business core courses that would comprise any business major. From there, the students take an international core of courses such as international marketing, international management, international trade, and international finance. The students are also required to then fill out their degree requirements by completing a functional specialization in accounting and finance, marketing, management, and a foreign language sequence.

- Global Learning Experiences
The Williamson Center for International Business currently offers two types of global learning experiences for both undergraduate and graduate students. The first, offered over Christmas break and second summer session, are short-term “study tours” from which students can earn 3 credits. The second is a six credit, six week program, located in London, offered first summer session. Student travel grants are available for first-time undergraduates with a minimum amount of $500 from the International Office located in Jones Hall. Participation in any of these experiences requires instructor permission.
Study Tours
These tours, lasting approximately 10 days, are offered during Christmas break and during second summer session (mid-July). The Christmas trip’s destination is London and Dublin, while the summer trip visits a variety of destination’s in China. Both trips are a combination of cultural tour whereby students are exposed to the business environment through the eyes of an individual and business tour where students tour a range of businesses in the respective countries during which they also have the opportunity to interact with executive level managers of the businesses visited. Participating students can earn 3 elective credits.
London Program
The London program is a combination of classroom and internship/experiential activities. During the six week London program students earn 3 required credits (undergraduates fulfill their international requirement through the International Marketing course, graduates fulfill their Global Business Environments requirement). They also receive 3 elective credits in International Business Consulting. The consulting activities consist of teams of 3-4 students working on specific, pre-determined, projects for major firms located in London. Examples of firms the students will work with are Harrod’s Department Store, Hilton International, Fuller’s Beverages, and Lloyd’s of London. The objective of these projects is to give the student’s the opportunity to gain real-life international work experience, references, as well as building a network of professional contacts. During their stay, the students live in fully furnished, secure apartments (“flats”) in central London. All students are housed in the same building. The classes typically meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings at a partner University to allow maximum flexibility in working with client firms. There is also ample opportunity to travel to other easily reached destinations such as Paris and Rome.

- International Internship Opportunities
The Williamson Center for International Business offers a variety of international internship opportunities. The most active is the Summer London Program (see Global Learning Experiences) where students have the chance to work in teams with internationally-recognized firms on specific projects over the course of the six week program. Participating in this program does not preclude students from also completing a traditional internship. There are also both individual internships and group projects involving working with local firms interested in or already participating in international operations available. In addition, interested students can arrange their own internship, through domestic or international firms, provided it meets the necessary requirements. In particular a number of students have participated in the Mountbatten Scholarship Program, which is a fully-funded year long internship in London. Finally, the Center is in the process of developing more formalized and regular internationally-based short and long-term internships with organizations located both in Asia and Europe.

- Economic Development Initiatives
The Williamson Center for International Business is very active in local and regional economic development as it pertains to international business. This includes working directly with organizations interested in either entering an international market(s) or improving the efficiency of their existing international operations. This assistance can be in the form of individual consulting, student projects, or student interns. The capability also exists to develop tailored programs, or seminars for individual firms. The Center also works closely with local and regional organizations involved in expanding international business in the region. These organizations include the Chamber of Commerce, government funded trade assistance groups (e.g. NEOTEC, ITAC, etc.), and the U.S. Department of Commerce. Finally, the Center is active in presenting programs, either independently or in conjunction with our partner organizations, covering a wide-range of international business-related topics.
