Course Descriptions:

All courses may be counted as business electives.

Exploring Business (BUS 1500 – 3 S.H.)

An introduction to the world of business with a focus on various functional areas and career opportunities. Development of the requirements of the business professional including team work, information gathering and communication skills.

Prereq.: MATH 1501 or level 20 on math placement or better and eligible to enroll in English 1550.


New Venture Creation (ENT 3700 – 3 S.H.)

An examination of the entrepreneurial process from opportunity recognition and assessment through the launch of the new firm.  Emphasis placed on exploring creativity and innovation.

Prereq.:  BUS 1500; sophomore standing and a GPA of 2.5.


Small Business Financial Management (ENT 3750 – 3 S.H.)

A study of the financing of entrepreneurial ventures, including the ways entrepreneurs identify and commit the necessary resources to create and fund new ventures.

Prereq.: ENT 3700 or FIN 3720 and a  2.5 GPA.


Business Plan Development (ENT 4800 – 3 S.H.)

The business plan is the roadmap to success for a new enterprise.  Each student will develop a plan for starting, acquiring, or expanding a business. 

Prereq.:  ENT 3700 and ENT 3750 or MGT 3725, MKTG 3703 and FIN 3720. 2.5 GPA.  


Entrepreneurship Internship (ENT 4850 – 3 S.H.)

The student receives in-depth exposure to the entrepreneurship world working under the direct supervision of an entrepreneur in a local small business. 

Prereq.: ENT 3700, ENT 3750 and ENT 4800. Must have a  2.5 GPA and approval of the director. 


Entrepreneurship Field Study (ENT 4851 – 3 S.H.)

Students work with actual problems and opportunities faced by small businesses under faculty supervision.  Recommendations are developed and presented to business owners for evaluation. 

Prereq.: ENT 3700, ENT 3750 and ENT 4800 or MGT 3725, MKTG 3703 and FIN 3720. 2.5 GPA.


Elementary Accounting (ACCT 1503 – 3 S.H.)

Principles, concepts, and terminology related to the accounting cycle. Examination of procedures related to control of cash and payroll activities.


Financial Accounting (ACCT 2602 – 3 S.H.)

Study of the accounting cycle and generally accepted accounting principles including preparation of financial statements.

Prereq.: Sophomore standing or C or better in BUS 1500 and C or better in MATH 1507 or level  40 on the math placement test.


Marketing Concepts (MKTG 3703 – 3 S.H.)

The activities involved in marketing products, services, and ideas examined within a framework of customer management.

Prereq.: BUS 1500 and junior standing.


Legal Environment of Business I (MGT 2604 – 3 S.H.)

Various sources of laws, basic legal reasoning and application. Emphasis on basic legal concepts of contracts, labor, tax, antitrust and business organizations, and their relationship to business and society.


Fundamentals of Management (MGT 3725 – 3 S.H.)

Emphasize the basic principles of management rather than those involved in business organization.

Prereq.: 2.5 GPA and junior standing.


Business Consulting (MGT 4880Y – 3 S.H.) 
Students work with actual problems faced by small businesses under faculty supervision.  Problems are defined, analyzed, and researched.

Prereq.: Junior standing or permission from instructor.
