YSU Mathematics Department alumni recently passed their Ph.D. qualifying exams.
Maria Salcedo and Ted Stadnik are enrolled in the Ph.D program at Purdue University. This is their second year (they entered in Fall 2005), and they passed qualifyers in Topology (January 2006), Algebra (Galois theory, etc.) and Real Analysis in August 2006, and Linear Algebra (January 2007). Ted and Maria took each of these qualifyers at the same time, and Ted could not enroll in Linear Algebra in the fall, so he just studied enough so he passed without the course!
