The YSU mechanical engineering program student outcomes ensure that our graduates have been given the skills to attain the program educational objectives after graduation.
Student outcomes for direct assessment are ABET specified outcomes (a) through (k); our students are expected to graduate with:
a) An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
b) An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
c) An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic,
environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
d) An ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams
e) An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
f) An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
g) An ability to communicate effectively
h) The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic,
environmental, and societal context
i) A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
j) A knowledge of contemporary issues
k) An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
In addition, continuous indirect assessment of these (a) through (k) ABET student outcomes is done using the following seven condensed and combined student outcomes:
(1) Our students will be able to perform well as mechanical engineers and understand the impact of engineering in a global, societal, and environmental context.
(2) Our students will be able to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems by applying fundamental knowledge of mathematics, basic sciences, and engineering sciences.
(3) Our students will be able to utilize modern engineering techniques, skills, and tools with an emphasis on the role that computers play in the process of solving engineering problems.
(4) Our students will be able to design and conduct experiments and to analyze and interpret data.
(5) Our students will be able to design mechanical engineering systems, components, or processes to meet the desired needs.
(6) Our students will be able to function and communicate effectively, both individually and within multidisciplinary teams.
(7) Our students will be able to understand contemporary issues, professional and ethical responsibility, and the necessity of engaging in life-long learning. |
