Our Mission

The primary mission of the Rich Center for Autism is to improve the lives of individuals with autism through the creation, use and enhancement of innovative educational programs specifically designed to enhance the individuals' opportunities to achieve their full potentials. The Rich Center serves as a conduit between the segments of the community concerned with autism: the university, educators and health and human service professionals.

Established in 1995, The Rich Center for Autism is dedicated to excellence in education and improving the lives of the individuals with autism and their families. Child centered education is integral to the success of the The Rich Center for Autism. At the Rich Center, each child's unique nature is honored through the development of unique therapies, classrooms and educational programs designed to meet each individual student's need.

There is something very special about the culture for The Rich Center for Autism. Each day is full of joy and possibility for students. The halls hum with energy and shared enthusiasm. Our highly skilled and specially trained teachers are dedicated to helping children with autism strive for physical and social growth and become contributing members of a diverse society. As a family-centered school, the Rich Center for autism is a community where the dignity of each child, teacher and parent is respected. We offer a place of hope.

The Rich Center for Autism is an externally funded unit of Youngstown State University. The Center is in a unique position to be guided by both the Beeghly College of Education and a Board of Directors. Under the leadership of Phyllis Ricchiuti, board chair and one of the organization's founders, the board has served to strengthen the Rich Center for Autism through meaningful community relationships and innovative fundraisers including PAR Golf Tournament, Give Autism the Boot, and the annual Rich Center for Autism Variety Show. The Board of Directors is happy to report that the Rich Center has exceeded its funding goals as they relate to the University's Centennial Strategic Plan.
