Nancy Andersen Wolfgang is in her fifth year as an instructor of musical theater at Youngstown State University.  She received her Master’s in Musical Theatre Performance from the Boston Conservatory and is currently completing a PhD in Music Education with a minor in Theater at Kent State University, specifically studying the development of the musical theater sound in young female singers.  Before teaching at YSU, Nancy was an instructor of musical theater and choir at the illustrious Las Vegas Academy for the Performing and Visual Arts.  She was part of the creative team that premiered many high school versions for MTI, including serving as music director for the national high school cast recording of Ragtime.  Her choirs won many honors, including Best-in-Show in national competitions.  Her choir also had the opportunity to perform with Eric Whitacre at the Sydney Opera House.

Nancy currently serves as the collegiate representative on the state board for the Ohio Educational Theater Association.   She was recently appointed the director for the All-Ohio 2012 spring production, which will feature high school students from across the state and will be presented as the flagship show for the state conference.  Nancy serves on the YSU Academic Senate and as the alternate to the Ohio Faculty Council, representing YSU.

Before beginning her university service, she resided in New York City where she had the opportunity to perform such roles as Christine in Yeston and Kopit’s Phantom, Irene Malloy in Hello, Dolly! as well as work on three original shows.  Other favorite roles include Maria in The Sound of Music, Bobbi/Gabbi in City of Angels, Laurie in Oklahoma, and Guenevere in Camelot.  Music directing/conducting credits include Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, Jekyll & Hyde, Little Women, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Local projects include music director for Oliver!, The Baker’s Wife, Little Women, Anything Goes, Urinetown: The Musical, and Once on This Island.  She was recently seen in concert as one of The Three Sopranos and was featured as a guest artist with the Packard Band.  Her students have been seen in numerous campus and local productions as well as in professional contracts.
