Requirements:
18 hours of coursework is required for completion of the American Studies minor.

Requirements:
48 hours of coursework is required for completion of the American Studies bachelors degree:
At least 39 hours of coursework must be taken in courses numbered 3700 and above.
12 hours of American Studies core courses are required. Course Descriptions
NOTE: Before registering for American Studies Research Seminar (AMER 4801), you must submit a Major Proposal, listing individual goals, courses chosen, and possible topics for your senior project. The proposal must be approved by the Coordinator and the American Studies Advisory Committee.
15 hours of courses to fulfill the Literacy goals, 6 hours to fulfill the Competency goals, and 15 hours in a Focus Area (see the list of approved courses ). You must take a different course to fulfill each literacy or competency goal; no single course may count in more that one category for an individual student. Courses must be selected from at least 3 programs or departments other than American Studies, and these courses must reflect a range of historical periods. Course Descriptions
Because the major is interdisciplinary, you do not need a minor.

Independent Project (AMER 6990) NOTE: Your Independent Project Proposal must be submitted and approved by the Program Coordinator the semester before you plan to register for the class. You must also submit the names of your committee members and chair at this time.
Certificate of Completion NOTE: This form must be signed by the chair of your committee and your committee members at your final meeting/defense then given to the Program Coordinator.

Graduate Assistantships The Program has a limited number of graduate assistantships which will provide tuition remission and a stipend to full-time students. Students work as teaching or research assistants. Contact Dr. Stephanie Tingley if you are interested.

Graduation Information:
All Graduate Students MUST complete the following three forms: "Notice of Intention to Apply for Graduation", "Graduate Graduation Application", and "Cap and Gown" within the first three weeks of the semster they intend to graduate.
