Ph.D., Exercise Science, The University of Mississippi, University, MS, 2002 M.S., Human Movement, The University of Memphis, Memphis, TN, 1999 B.S., Exercise Science, Appalachian State University, Boone, NC, 1997
Profile:
Prior to coming to YSU, Dr. Smith taught as an adjunct Assistant Professor at Elon University within the Departments of Exercise Science and Health and Human Performance from 2008-2010. From 2006-2008, he was a Research Fellow in the Department of Neurobiology & Anatomy at Wake Forest University studying multisensory integration. As a Post-doctoral Fellow within the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2003-2006, he studied motor behavior of the tongue.
Research Interests:
Dr. Smith uses biomechanical and physiological tools to answer research questions related to motor behavior. His interests are varied, ranging from motor control and motor development of the tongue to enhancing athletic performance. The research involving athletic performance looks at ways to temporarily enhance performance as well as ways to design better strength and conditioning programs.
