The communication studies area offers three minors in communication including A) communication, B) social media campaigns, and C) communicating in diverse organizations. Students interested in completing a minor in communication studies must complete 18 semester hours in one of the following three minors:

Communication Minor (total 18 s.h.)

Take the following course (3 s.h.):

• CMST 2600 Communication Theory 3 s.h. 

and one of the following courses (3 s.h.):

• CMST 2653 Group Communication 3 s.h.
• CMST 2656 Interpersonal Communication 3 s.h.
• CMST 2657 Organizational Communication 3 s.h.

and then complete minor with 4 upper-division courses (3700- and above, 12 s.h.).

Social Media Minor (total 18 s.h.)

• CMST 2600 Communication Theory 3 s.h.
• CMST 3700 Designing Communication Research 3 s.h.
• CMST 3717 Introduction to Media Relations Campaigns 3 s.h.
• CMST 3757 Media Relations Writing 3 s.h.
• CMST 4850 Computer Mediated Communication 3 s.h.
• CMST 4851 New Communication Media 3 s.h.

Communicating in Diverse Organizations Minor (total 18 s.h.) 

Take the following courses (6 s.h.):

• CMST 2600 Communication Theory 3 s.h.
• CMST 2657 Organizational Communication 3 s.h.

Second, take one of the following (3 s.h.):

• CMST 2610 Intercultural Communication 3 s.h.
• CMST 2653 Group Communication 3 s.h.
• CMST 2656 Interpersonal Communication 3 s.h.

Third, take (6 s.h.):

• CMST 4859 Organizational Cultures 3 s.h.
• CMST 5852 Conflict Management and Negotiation 3 s.h.

Finally, take one of the following (3 s.h.):

• CMST 2610 Gender Communication 3 s.h. 
• CMST 2653 Interviewing 3 s.h. 
• CMST 2656 Interpersonal Relationships 3 s.h.
