Considering enrolling in a teacher education program at Youngstown State University? We hope your answer is "yes" to both questions. This Web site was created to guide and stimulate your thoughts in these areas.

You are considering preparation for a career that today is the focus of heightened public attention and professional concern. As we continue to learn more about teaching and teachers, the Beeghly College of Education modifies its educational programs to reflect emerging knowledge and practice drawn from the "best practices" literature and research, changes in program accreditation, and the educational needs of our region.

Because of this dynamic, ever-changing aspect of teacher preparation, it is important that you read all program materials carefully, raise questions when in doubt about program requirements, and understand the sequencing of your program. Because of the time you began your program and/or your own personal career goals, the teacher education program you are following may be quite unlike that of your friends or your K-12 school teachers. Make it a priority to seek out course planning advice from a Professional Academic Advisor in the Beeghly College of Education and/or a full-time faculty member in your major area of study every semester you are in the program.

The materials, resources, faculty, and staff of the Beeghly College of Education are extensive and are provided to guide and support you.

In the end, however, as Galileo suggests, it will be your own achievements . . . what develops and emerges within yourself as you study to become a teacher . . . that will determine your professional success.
