Students in the Counseling Program have the opportunity for graduate assistantship which provide a remission of instructional fees up to 12 semester hours and a small stipend each semester.  Approximately 25% of Counseling Program master’s students hold graduate assistantships.  This is a significant benefit to master’s level counseling students that is rarely found at other counseling program.  Graduate Assistantships provide counseling students with the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with faculty on teaching, research, and/or other academic duties. Graduate assistants work 20 hours per week of work, including exam week.  Additional information regarding GA duties can be found in the Graduate Assistantship Handbook.

To apply for a Graduate Assistantship, complete the Graduate Assistantship Application and submit the application to the Graduate Studies Office.  Once processed, the application will then be sent the Cindy Sarnowski, Department of Counseling and Special Education Administrative Assistant. 

Counseling and other faculty can review the assistantship applications received.  Students interested in Graduate Assistantships are encouraged to look across campus for available graduate assistantships and speak with current counseling students who hold graduate assistantships for future available assistantships.
