The Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival is very excited to celebrate its 10th year anniversary of providing a forum which enriches, educates and entertains our diverse community about the Jewish experience. Under the auspices of the Youngstown State University Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies, the Festival’s goal is to serve the widest possible audience in the Mahoning & Shenango valleys by taking advantage of the cross-cultural power of film’s creative expression. Since 2003, this goal has been fulfilled by presenting a variety of films about all facets of Jewish life, history and culture, including a mixture of contemporary feature films and documentaries from around the world.

From September 6th to September 23rd theatergoers will be entertained with films that are diverse in their subject matter and universal to people of all faiths and walks of life.

A compelling feature film about two brothers torn between personal choices and values, and their struggle to deal with the continuous debate between religious and political principles in Israel
A deep and heart-felt documentary about the stories of the Jews in Greece during the eve of the Holocaust
The authentic and touching tragicomic story of an intense friendship between two mismatched heroes in today's Berlin, proving that hatred can turn into mutual understanding, trust and forgiveness
A coming-of-age story which centers on a boy about to have a bar mitzvah, and on his severely autistic older brother, who unexpectedly arrives home after years of living in an institution
A moving documentary which tells the nearly forgotten story of an Englishman who organized the rescue of 669 Czech and Slovak children just before the outbreak of World War II, combining newsreels and archival photos with dramatic reenactments and narrated by rescued children and the rescuer himself
A poignant biography of an elite army commando killed in Operation Entebbe, shuttling among milestones of his short but fascinating life, and drawing on the soldier’s own prophetic writings that reveal deep-rooted introspection, human frailty and heartfelt passions
