New CMS rules utilizing the MDS 3.0 effecting student supervision in SNFs
A PT can bill for individual, concurrent or group treatments. An individual treatment is 1:1 (PT: patient), supervision for the student has to be in-line of sight, the PT cannot be doing anything else except paperwork, they must be able to see the student and resident at all times. A concurrent treatment is 1:2 (PT: 2 patients), but each patient is billed 1/2 time. A student can work with one or both residents, but again PT has to be within line of sight. If the student is treating both, the PT cannot do anything else, only supervising. A group treatment is 1:3 or 4 (PT: 3 or 4 patients). Must bill with formula that divides up payment. The student again can run the group or be part of the group treatment, but must receive line of sight supervision and PT cannot do anything else.
