Dr. J. D. Faires Wins Prestigious C. C. MacDuffee Award

Mathematics and Statistics

At the MAA MathFest 2006 meeting in Knoxville, TN, Dr. Faires was given the prestigious C. C. MacDuffee Award for distinguished service to Pi Mu Epsilon, the Honorary National Mathematics Society.

Dr. Faires, a past president of PME, has been closely involved in all aspects of the organization, including 18 years service as a PME Coucillor.

The C. C. MacDuffee Distinguished Service Award was established in 1964, in honor of the late Professor C. C. MacDuffee (University of Wisconsin), former President of Pi Mu Epsilon. Pi Mu Epsilon's highest honor is awarded only when an individual's efforts to promote scholarly activity in mathematics are so distinguished that they merit commendation and recognition by all concerned.
