Courses in this major provide students with the necessary communication skills for today’s job market and future career demands. Communication Studies courses address the universal emphasis placed on effective communication skills by employers and recruiters. The core curriculum of 18 credit hours includes courses covering these communication skills.

The curriculum is then divided into three unique tracks to better prepare students for a particular career. These tracks include:

The overriding goal of each track is to challenge each student to discover and study the many forms of communication. Regardless of track, students graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies will:

  • possess effective communication skills to apply to their careers.
  • possess the necessary communication skills for success in their personal lives.
  • be more critical communication consumers
  • be prepared for entry-level positions in communication-related skill and management positions.
  • be more aware of the ethical issues in effective communication.

Students completing their degree in Communication Studies are uniquely qualified to enter the job market and compete effectively throughout their careers for advancement and promotion.

Through course offerings and applied learning experiences, the Communication Studies program combines a rich liberal arts emphasis with a much needed specialized professional and career focus for undergraduate students.
