Dear YSU Geography Club Members,
On behalf of the YSU Geography Club and YSU Geography Department, I wish all members a warm welcome to Youngstown State University for the Spring 2012 semester! During the Fall 2011 semester, the Geography Department had one of its best terms in recent memory by hosting the 2011 Annual Meeting of the East Lakes Division of the Association of American Geographers. In addition, the YSU Geography Club sponsored a number of exciting events during the term, including Professional Geography Night, the Geography Department Fall Picnic and the Department's annual Holiday Party.
The YSU Geography Club looks to continue our sucessful roll into the future by sponsoring a number of events during Spring 2012. This includes a Field Trip to the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area scheduled to occur during latter half of the term. In addition, some club members have discuessed the possibility of sponsoring guest speakers from outside institutions to speak to the YSU Geography Club about the latest research and trends within the Geography/Earth Science disciplines.
Dear YSU Geography Club,
Dr. Lashale Pugh, the YSU Geography Department and the YSU Geography Club are co-sponsoring a viewing of the movie "Contagion," a film that depicts many different aspects of the medical geography field. This viewing will take place at the following date, time and location:
Date: Wednesday, March 28, 2012
Time: 5:20 PM
Where: Main Branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, Lower level, 305 Wick Ave, Youngstown, Ohio
Prior to the start of the movie there will be a panel discussion regarding the response to an outbreak of disease, followed by time for questions from the audience. This panel consists of the following members:
Susan Kovach, MPH, Mahoning County District board of Health
Cicero Davis, Director of Environmental Health, Youngstown City Health District
Nicole Beckner-Litz, Public Health Nurse, Youngstown City Health district

***********ATTENTION ALL YSU GEOGRAPHY CLUB MEMBERS***********
The YSU Geography Club is now looking to register members for its spring field trip on Saturday, March 31st, 2012 to the Phipps Conservatory and the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania!
This trip will provide members a chance to relax from their busy semesters and have fun while learning about the physical and cultural landscapes of Southwest Pennsylvania.
Registration for this trip is limited to 13 students and will be allotted on a first come, first serve basis!
A sign-up sheets has been placed in the Geography Department office for those who are interested in going. Again, seating is limited to the first 13 people to register, so if you are interested, please come to the department office and sign up!
