Name: Brian S. Mellott
Title: Accountant
Company: Defense Finance & Accounting Service (DFAS)
Upon completing my undergraduate degree in accounting, I knew I wanted to take the CPA exam. When my professors at YSU mentioned the requirement to have 150 semester hours of coursework to sit for the exam, it only made sense to immediately continue my education and enter the MBA program at YSU.
After graduating with my MBA, I immediately began a career with the federal government as an accountant. Soon thereafter, I was afforded an opportunity to start my own sole proprietorship accounting business. Today, I am able to successfully serve a variety of small businesses thanks to the advanced skills, knowledge, and connections made all while enrolling in YSU‘s MBA Program.
Earning an MBA rather than focusing solely on accounting has allowed me to excel in all facets of my job, and has ultimately granted me unrestricted access to move about the organizations multiple areas such as finance, marketing and management.
The contacts I made while in the MBA program, helped me to develop my professional network while providing an opportunity for me to learn from their professional experiences. The value of the MBA degree continues to grow exponentially and relationships I made while in the program continue to lead to new opportunities, while the tools and knowledge I developed not only apply to my professional career, but also in my personal life. |
