  Admission Requirements

The Admissions Office is located in Sweeney Welcome Center

To fulfill admission requirements, an Ohio resident or a resident of Mercer or Lawrence Counties in Pennsylvania must submit the following:

  • A completed undergraduate application by prior to the semesters deadline date
  • $40 non-refundable application fee
  • An official high school transcript
  • Proof of taking the American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
  • For Ohio residents - Indication of passing all sections of the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT)

Following high school graduation, an official final high school transcript must be forwarded to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Youngstown State University offers open enrollment for Ohio high school seniors, therefore, there is no minimum test score, grade point average, nor class rank required to be admitted to the university. However, admission to particular classes and academic programs will only be granted based on evaluation of the high school transcript and test scores.

Non-Residents

High school seniors who are not residents of Ohio or do not reside in Mercer and Lawrence counties are required to submit all of the following stated above and have an American College Test (ACT) composite score of 17 or higher or a combined Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score of at least 820 or rank in the upper two-thirds of his or her graduating class.

NOTE: A student may complete and submit an application prior to having his or her transcript and/or test scores forwarded to the university. However, a student will not be conditionally admitted to the university until all credentials have been received and processed by the admissions office.
