Limited discussion of the assigned topic. Multiple errors, omissions, or significant irrelevant discussion, some of which is purely opinionated or arbitrary.

Reasonable discussion of the assigned topic. Minor inaccuracies, omissions or irrelevant discussion. The research is reasonably adequate.

Fully addresses the assigned topic with depth and accuracy using appropriate research methods. No errors, omissions or irrelevant discussion.

 

Organization

Presentation jumps around and is not easy to follow, but an alert listener can gather come information. Logical sequence is difficult to identify. Very few transitions.

Follows a logical sequence but there are some speed bumps or weak transitions. Weak or unclear in one of the main areas (intro, body, conclusion).

Presentation follows a logical sequence that is easy to understand. Clear Intro, Body and Conclusion. Clear transitions help to make main ideas apparent.

 

Language/

Literacy

Significant grammatical, articulation or pronunciation errors to a point where understandability is degraded. Word choice is problematic.

Complete sentences are used most of the time. Occasional grammatical, articulation, or pronunciation errors. Word choice is mostly appropriate and proper.

Speaks in complete sentences with proper grammar, articulation and pronunciation. Appropriate words and appropriate meanings. Language is free of bias and is not offensive.

 

Voice/

Fluency

Multiple examples of poor volume or rate issues. Numerous filled pauses or choppiness. Fluctuates between being dynamic and monotone.

Audience can clearly hear most of the presentation. Rate may be a little off. Occasional filled pauses or choppiness. Primarily dynamic but some instances of monotone.

Loud enough for the audience to hear. Rate of speech ideal for audience understanding, no filled pauses or choppiness. Voice is dynamic, never monotone.

 

Eye

Contact

Little or no eye contact and long stretches of reading from notes. 50% or more of the presentation is simply read.

Significant eye contact, but some periods of pure reading. As much as 25% of the presentation is simply read.

Nearly constant eye contact. Audience feels it is being addressed rather than simply read a prepared statement.

 

Body

Language

Uses few gestures effectively or uses body movements or gestures that detract from the presentation.

Uses gestures, but some minor fidgeting or unnatural body movements.

Speaker uses meaningful and natural hand gestures.  Appears poised, controlled, and composed, Free of extraneous movement.

 

Professional

Dress

Appearance/dress warrants corrective action my management. Multiple problems that detract from professional appearance.

Could pass for business dress, but is substandard compared to other professionals in the office.

Neat, clean; hair well-groomed in business style; no excessive jewelry; clothing follows contemporary business norms.

 

PowerPoint

The student is able to use PowerPoint in a meaningful way and the delivery adds something to the presentation

Reasonably effective delivery, but the slides convey too much or too little detail.

PowerPoint delivery is effective and blends the right mix of content without overwhelming detail.
