The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Gerontology offers majors and minors in each of these areas including a minor in forensic anthropology and gerontology. The department also offers a Certificate in Applied Gerontology as well.

Welcome! You have, by design or accident, happened on the Web Site for the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Gerontology - three departments in one so to speak. As chair of this very active department, I feel very lucky to have a faculty second to none in its willingness to help the student wend their way through an important four-year segment of their lives.
As a department, we are dedicated to teaching and counseling our students as we do scholarship and research. Students entering this brace of disciplines will have ample opportunity to get hands-on or, in the case of archaeology; hands-dirty experience. We pride ourselves on both the breadth of our our student-involved activities and on the personal attention we give to each of our majors.
The sub-fields in which students may become actively involved include, under Sociology, social research, gerontology, social deviance and, under Anthropology, historic and prehistoric archaeology, forensic anthropology, and cultural studies.

The mission statement of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Gerontology is to provide quality teaching, scholarship, and service to our students and to the community. The department emphasizes a scholarly dissemination of knowledge and the utilization of scientific methods, analytical skills, theoretical perspectives, research methods, and statistical procedures for describing and explaining social, cultural, and biological diversity of humankind. Sociology, Anthropology, and Gerontology students develop, therefore, a unique appeciation of this diversity which, in turn, carriers over into their daily lives, ultimately affecting their future occupations, citizenship, and general life experiences.
