    Alumni Society Board Member Q&A

    Ask Krista!

Krista White, '97, '99, has been a member of the YSU Alumni Society Board of Directors since 2009.  A Marketing Coordinator at Armstrong, Krista represents YOUR Alumni Society with lots of great ideas and positive energy!

    Let's get started...

    Q)  What is your favorite YSU hang out/memory?

    A)  My favorite YSU hang out was Maag Library (nerd alert!). Since I was there when computers were just starting to be introduced into the classroom, and had yet to become a research tool, I spent many happy hours of research and quiet reading in Maag. No matter where classes took me on campus, no matter what changed in my life, Maag was my constant. I still think of it fondly.

    Q)  How did your major at YSU benefit your job?

    A)  Language comprehension is strategic to marketing, from perception to comprehension to transmission. I have the ability to figure out new communications quickly—whether it is for a new product launch or for event management —and either translate it for training or determine the protocol for event management. I must communicate with the press in a way that is succinct and effective. No matter what I do, it relates back to communication, whether I am receiving communication or putting forth communication.

    Q)  What prompted you to become an Alumni Society Board Member?

    A)  The chance to support an organization that supported me for so many years was my impetus. YSU was more than just a school to me. It was education and entertainment. The faculty and staff and nurtured my academic growth. Sporting, music and cultural events kept me busy through the evenings and weekends. It was a home away from home. Even though I was a commuter, I still felt part of the University family. I still feel part of the University family, through the Alumni Society.

    Q)  What does being an Alumni Society member mean to you?

    A)  It means staying an integral force in a University community, well beyond my education. It means giving back to a University so that future students can have the same impactful educational and social experiences I had. It means networking with like-minded professionals who believe in YSU as a center of community, education and society. It means broadening my web of contacts beyond the borders of the Mahoning Valley, because in each part of the country, in each part of the world, there is a YSU Penguin.

    Q)  If it meant a winning football season, would you go down and do push-ups with the ROTC cadets at each touchdown?

    A)  YSU athletes work as hard in the classroom as they do on the field. I would happily do push-ups for any athlete that both pushes herself or himself to a championship in both sports and academics. And neither are small feat, considering I haven’t done a push-up since 2003.

...there will be more Q&A with Krista down the road, but in the meantime be sure to check back next month for the chance to get to know another YSU Alumni Society Board Member!
