The cost to attend Youngstown State University is being drastically reduced for residents of Westmoreland and Washington counties.
The two counties have been added to YSU’s Western Pennsylvania Advantage, which slashes the out-of-state surcharge paid by undergraduate students who are residents of the western part of the Keystone State.
Before being added to the Western Pennsylvania Advantage, tuition for students in Westmoreland and Washington counties was $10,278 per academic year. As part of the Western Pennsylvania Advantage, tuition will be $7,661 per academic year starting this fall. That’s a savings of $2,617 per year and only $210 more than the rate for Ohio students.
The Western Pennsylvania tuition discount program was started in fall 2009 with the counties of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Crawford, Erie, Lawrence, Mercer and Venango. Westmoreland and Washington counties are now being added to the list.
